Tips for homeowners this Fall

1) Please remember to turn off all exterior faucets and drain the associated bleed valves. These valves are typically located in the basement directly inside the exterior faucet. This will help to prevent the water pipes from freezing. Also, if you have a sprinkler system, remember to have your sprinkler company drain the sprinkler piping in October or early November.

2) It is very important to keep your gutters clean. This cleaning is done at least twice a year (in the autumn and spring). Cleaning your gutters prevents rain from overflowing and causing water entry through the house foundation. Also, consider installing gutter guards to reduce gutter maintenance. This is particularly important when there are many trees located near your house.

3) With cold weather approaching, it is recommended that homeowners obtain a service contract with a reputable HVAC contractor to have their heating systems cleaned and serviced. This will increase the system efficiency which will save you money.
